Adolescent Lymphoma Survivors More Likely to Experience Subsequent Cancers

Final thoughts

Adolescents and young adults who have survived hematological cancer such as lymphoma or leukemia are at an increased risk of developing a subsequent cancer, and then passing away from it. This secondary cancer is most often not even of the same type as their first cancer, but they still have the increased risk.

Dr. Armenian and his colleagues have not only quantified this in data, they are also using the information to discover what the risk factors are. The goal is to be able to monitor cancer survivors and guide them in ways that will minimize their risk of developing a subsequent malignant neoplasm.
