Mumps is a highly contagious infection that’s spread from one person to another. It’s often spread through contact of infected respiratory secretions. There’s no precise treatment for mumps. However, several alternative treatments are available to alleviate the pain and swelling caused by the illness.

Indian Lilac

The anti-viral properties of Indian lilac can effectively combat the swelling associated with mumps. Crush some Indian lilac leaves and add a little water to form a thick paste. Add one tablespoon of turmeric powder to the paste. Gently apply this paste on the affected area.  Allow it for about 30 minutes before washing it off with lukewarm water. Do this once daily until your symptoms completely disappear.

Asparagus

Asparagus is highly enriched with vital nutrients as well as minerals that protect the body against viral infections. Most often, the asparagus seeds are used for the treatment of mumps. Take three tablespoons of asparagus and fenugreek seed powder. Mix the two and put in some water to make a paste. Apply this paste on the inflamed parts of your face. Let it dry and later clean it off using a wet cloth. Do this two times each day for about 10 days.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera possesses antibiotic, anti-viral, and anti-inflammatory properties that help in reducing the pain and swelling. Take some aloe vera leaves and peel off their skin to extract some gel. Add one pinch of turmeric into it and use the mixture in massaging the swollen region of your throat. Leave it for half an hour and clean it off using warm water.

Alternatively, take two ounces of aloe vera juice every day to improve your immune system and quicken the healing process.

Chebulic Myrobalan

This herbal treatment is famously known for its incredible antibiotic and anti-inflammatory effects. Take two chebulic myrobalan fruits and dry them in the sunlight for about six hours. When they're completely dry, crush them on a mixer. Now, form a paste by adding a little water into it. Massage your throat and neck using the paste.

Sacred Fig

Sacred fig leaves have anti-viral properties that destroy the virus responsible for causing mumps. Even more, the anti-inflammatory effects of this herbal drug can relieve the swelling, pain, and inflammation triggered by mumps. Take two sacred fig leaves and spread oil or clarified butter on them. Warm the leaves and place them on the painful regions. Firmly fix them using a tape, which will serve as an herbal bandage. Allow thirty minutes before removing it. For effective results, perform the procedure twice daily for about 7 days.

Mullein

The cooling and soothing properties of mullein accelerate the healing process. Moreover, the anti-inflammatory effects of mullein extracts alleviate the irritation and pain. Take one tablespoon of dried leaves and place them inside a cup of hot water. Allow them steep for about ten minutes. Dip an extremely clean cloth inside the mullein tea and gently compress it on the inflamed areas for quite some time. Repeat this regularly to get significant relief.

Banyan Tree Leaves

This treatment has been used widely in the curing of numerous illnesses. Take one leaf of the banyan tree and clean it thoroughly. Dab clarified butter or oil on it. Slowly warm it and carefully apply it on the swollen regions. Fix it using a tape and leave it for 24 hours.
