Dr. West says that specialists and health care providers should be careful when they prescribe their patients with video games as a cognitive exercise. We can see from this study that there are some unhealthy brain changes related to action video games.

Are there people who shouldn’t be playing action video games?

Some people with brain diseases already have less gray matter in their hippocampus. These diseases include Alzheimer’s dementia, depression, and schizophrenia. People with these diseases should probably avoid active shooting games because they already have a smaller hippocampus.
