Which brain disorders are men at higher risk for?
Autism happens to be more common in boys and is usually detected very young. It actually happens in a spectrum. Some people have very mild cases, and they can function well with some therapy just fine. Others are less fortunate and have severe disabilities. The disorder itself is a problem with social skills and communication. For some reason, there tend to be more boys with autism than girls.
Boys are 4.5 times more likely than girls to get attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). In this disorder, people have trouble focusing on a task for long periods of time. A child with ADHD can have a very hard time doing well in school. When these kids fidget, run around, jump off furniture, or talk out of turn, their teachers might think they are just troublemakers trying to disobey them. Since there are more little boys than girls with ADHD, it's no wonder they have a reputation for being rambunctious!
