Bag of Cells Sent to California to Be Used to Kill Lymphoma

Final thoughts

Dave Matthews, 51, husband and small business owner, was struck by an internal monster in the form of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. It went refractory, and failed to respond to treatment.

He was offered an experimental treatment and chose to throw himself onto the merciful skills of lab technicians and genetic engineers. A couple of weeks later, his immune system had been upgraded with the ability to detect and attack his cancer.

Today, his cancer is decreasing in size. Tomorrow, he wants to bring this treatment to other people. “There’s good in all of us, and everyone should be afforded the same experience and opportunity I had,” he said.
