Can Patients Really Die From Sleep Apnea?

Children with sleep apnea may also die from sudden infant death syndrome

SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome) may be a result of sleep apnea in children. Children can experience sleeping problems like sleep apnea, insomnia, and narcolepsy, even if they do not present any symptoms of these conditions.

Clinical studies reported that obstructive sleep apnea is possible in infants with a family history of sleep apnea.

Risk factors for SIDS are not always sleep apnea, but some risks could be:

  • Sleeping in the prone positions
  • Maternal smoking during pregnancy
  • Excessive heating
  • Premature birth and low birth weights
