Someone with an arthritis-related illness such as lupus, osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis has a higher risk of developing fibromyalgia. Also, there is a family connection. If someone in the family has fibromyalgia, then chances of developing the disease are high.
Other conditions like painful bladder syndrome, irritable bowel syndrome, depression, temporomandibular joint disorder, and anxiety are usually associated with fibromyalgia.
