The Center for Disease Control (CDC) does state that having an IBD like Crohn’s disease or UC can increase a person’s chance of developing colon cancer and stomach cancer, but it is not a death sentence. There is no reason to confuse the two and assume that just because someone has IBD that will definitely end up having cancer as many people with IBD do not.

However, because of the slightly increased risk, the CDC does recommend regular and frequent checks that include colon biopsies so that their doctors can detect and treat any possible cancers as early as possible.
