There are certain doctors who are very confident in their many accolades and successes. They sometimes go as far as thinking whoever gets to be treated by them are extremely fortunate. Their air of confidence is comforting to some, and disconcerting to others. If you don't mind a bit of an ego, these doctors might be great for you. However, if modesty is more your speed, try not to be bothered by their cumbersome air of superiority. Instead, ensure that they will be treating you as an important patient instead of simply a number.
If they are ever trying to push a novel procedure they had part in inventing that is something that you are not comfortable with, no matter how much recognition might surround it for them, be vocal in your decision against it. Never allow yourself to be pressured into a line of treatment you do not approve of for yourself just because the doctor is supposedly "a big name." Doctors who are surrounded with respect can definitely be intimidating, but never lose sight of the fact that they are ultimately there to help you. Second opinions are valuable regardless of whether the doctor is esteemed or is just out of medical school.
