Cystic Fibrosis Sufferer Meets Donor of Life-saving Transplant

How Selwa overcame expectations

Selwa, mother of two, was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at the age of 3. She was not expected to live through her 7th birthday. Luckily, advancements in treatment options allowed her to live out her teen years, go off to college, marry, and have two children. “I've defied the odds throughout my life. When you're told you aren't going to have a life, you really fight for it” she said. In 2015, Selwa’s lung function dropped down to 22% and during the same year, she was placed on an organ transplant list. “I was lying in bed and could hear my children opening their Christmas presents in the other room, but couldn't even go in there, I was so weak. I went to my doctor and said, "I think it's time. I'm so tired. I can't fight like I have been” she recalled.
