Let your significant other know that you are there for them
Be supportive when going grocery shopping and prepare diabetic meals. Don’t slap their hands when they go to take a drink of soda or draw up their insulin injections. They are perfectly capable of doing things for themselves. Allow your diabetic partner to self-manage. Giving up nagging and “I will do it for you” attitudes will go far to keep your relationship happy. If you have diabetes, let your significant other know how you feel and be clear about the level of support you need. Knowing what you want and need will make it easier for both of you to figure out what to do. It will also give you a feeling of empowerment.
