Capistrant was forced to retire at the height of his career
Capistrant was forced to retire in 1998, at the height of his career. The symptoms had become so intense that he could no longer examine his patients or continue his research. However, he was not going to just sit back and relax. Instead, he decided to become an example for those who are struggling with the disease. Capistrant wanted to inspire other patients to take control of their lives and learn how to properly manage their symptoms.
