Though doctors are recommending alternative treatments, such as mindfulness and meditation, it's very important for the physician to remember that mindfulness can only be one tool in their arsenal.
Walking or chanting might be effective for some, and sitting and breathing exercises might work for others. But, there are patients that might not respond to mindfulness and respond to other alternative treatments like massage therapy and acupuncture. Alternative health approaches are not the problem. It is the notion that these methods work for all types of chronic pain.
