Matt's surgery started at about 10 p.m. that night on January 18, which extended far past the dusk, and long after dawn. At 8:30 a.m. on January 19, doctors exited the OR and gave the good news. However, it was far from over for Matt. The first few days of recovery were very traumatic. After 10 days of recovery, he was sent home but was quarantined in the basement for about 3 months. He needed to be isolated from his family because of his weakened immune system.
