FDA Gives Guidelines for Medications Containing Gluten

Beyond Celiac's role

The organization behind a study that spotted the impact of labeling medications for celiac patient is Beyond Celiac, which revealed that undisclosed gluten in medications was triggering a response in celiac patients. In 2011, the FDA granted USD 50,000 in order to turn said anecdotes into documented and quantifiable research.

This big step was included medication labels in the Food Allergen Labeling Consumer Protection Act (usually abbreviated as FALCPA), by including medication that may contain gluten as an allergen for people with celiac disease or non-celiac gluten sensitivity.
