Silver's inspiring venture to write a book for Parkinson's awareness
At first, Robert Silver was hesitant to write a book about the disease. In his long career of 45 years as a clinical and forensic psychologist, he had released one book called Tributes and Tirades: Taos Life and American Politics. However, Father’s Day 2013, he, his wife, and some friends were hiking in Williams Lake. As they stopped by a restaurant to rest and eat, he noticed a couple and was certain that the husband had Parkinson’s as well. Robert then approached the couple and asked if the husband was part of an organization and luckily he was. After a few days, he had an epiphany and decided to write about the disease to inspire and raise awareness.
Robert J. Silver dedicated the book to his wife Diane and the community who had helped him pull his efforts and courage together. His book was published March 11, 2018, and all of the proceeds go to three organizations that support the PD communities and fund research. These three foundations are the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, Davis Phinney Foundation for Parkinson’s, and Salk Institute for Biological Studies.
