For People with Sleep Apnea a Diagnosis May Be Life-Saving

Treatment options

There are many treatment options for OSA, and everything depends on the severity of symptoms of the disease and possible risks. In mild cases the doctor may start with simple recommendations like changing the sleeping posture, using decongestants before sleep, avoiding alcohol before sleeping, doing more exercise and decreasing the body weight.

These simple guidelines may work for many, but for some people, things may not change and they may need more specific interventions. The three more specific interventions are oral appliances, PAP, or surgical correction (5).
