High School Track Star Overcomes Lupus to Compete with the Best

Despite lupus, Robertson strives to be the best athlete on the track.

Despite her illness, Robertson trains hard. She arrives early for practice, stays late and even goes in on weekends. She says that she would train the same way even without the disease, it’s just the way she is. What she does do differently is post-training. Robertson manages her inflammation and pain by soaking in Epsom salt baths, and sometimes she does this twice in one day. She also had to learn to recognize the difference between lupus pain and athletic pain. Robertson found out that it was critical for her to know whether or not her pain was from lupus or an injury to stay in physical shape to compete.
