How Often Are Airline Pilots Tested for Sleep Disorders

Other accidents that happened due to fatigue

Two transportation accidents, though not on an airline, happened at the Hoboken Terminal on September 29, 2016 and at the Atlantic Terminal in Brooklyn. Both accidents were due to extreme fatigue, as well as the transit agency's failure to monitor its workers for sleep apnea. Now, both the NJ Transit and Long Island Rail Road have sleep apnea screenings, but there are still plenty of railroad agencies without it.

The NTSB has since issued a warning to mariners, bus and truck drivers urging them to get screened for sleep apnea. The NTSB states, “sleep apnea substantially increases the likelihood of both critical errors and actually falling asleep while driving."
