How to Build Mobility Confidence with Parkinson's Disease

Therapeutic Yoga

This is something that is fairly new but thought to benefit Parkinson's patients greatly because of the mind body link. The practice has three parts that focus on rhythm and balance through music movement therapy that are effective for gait training. The patient is encouraged to move around a room to the rhythm of a simple beat or from one foot to the next. Additionally is the patient is unable to stand they can do the same movements by incorporating arm swinging while staying seated in a chair. Parkinson’s yoga has been shown to improve range of motion, strength, endurance and coordination. Variations on the practice is common in order to accommodate the different levels of physical activity that patients can perform.
