How to Handle a Fibromyalgia Flare-Up

Listen to your body

When it comes to health, no one can understand your body better than you, so dealing with discomfort is a personal choice. When looking at fibromyalgia, flare-ups are directly effecting the functions of the individual experiencing the flare up, making them the only one who can describe the flare-up during these instances. For example, “a flare up is your body’s way of saying it is not coping. You need to listen to your body and your intuition on what is right for you. The aim is to minimize and overcome your symptoms. If you are tired, rest; sleep as often as you need to.” The body was not designed to take abuse outside of its natural activities, and neglecting a symptom would be considered self-abusive. Straining oneself over a disease that cannot be controlled by force is a perpetual nightmare that every individual should avoid.
