How the different types affect the outcome
As previously mentioned, there’s a few variations of NHL, all of which present themselves differently.
One way to break it down is by the type of lymphocyte cell from which the cancer originated. The two main types of lymphocytes from which NHL stems are B cells and T cells. Both are involved in the body’s immune response, either protecting germs and creating antibodies (B cells) or destroying germs themselves (T cells). B cell variations of NHL are the more common of the two (these cancers make up about 85% of NHLs in the United States), while the T cell types are relatively rare. Even within the designation of B cell and T cell NHLs, there are multiple subtypes, all of which respond to treatment differently.
