Marijuana’s Role in Cancer Treatment

Possibility of negative effects

While it appears that marijuana can certainly have some positive impact on cancer patients, researchers remain appropriately cautious to recommend the drug due to the possibility of harm. Being high off marijuana can reduce a patient’s motor skills and control and also develop feelings of anxiety or paranoia in certain cases. Smoking marijuana also has many of the same negative side effects on the body that smoking cigarettes does. And because marijuana is a controlled substance, there’s sometimes a possibility of developing mental addiction. Since there are a variety of negative side effects possible with use of the drug, and since marijuana comes in a wide variety of strains that have different effects and a different level of severity, medical providers are appropriately cautious.
