Not being well educated about your condition
It is extremely important that patients be well-educated about their RA, how it specifically affects them, and what they can do to alleviate their symptoms. Efforts to self-educate often begin with the internet. Unfortunately, there is little regulation with what health information circulates the web. A good place to start is to ask your PCP or specialist where to look. They can direct you to accurate information either on the web or on paper that is geared towards patients, meaning it is in easily understandable language. Being educated is the first step towards self-management. By knowing about RA and your specific needs you can have more control over your life and play more active role in the development of your health care plan. Having control over your RA increases confidence which is important for you overall health and for maintaining a good quality of life.
