Moderate Drinking May Help Lower the Risk of Type 2 Diabetes
Wine's special advantage over beer
Wine seemed to have a special advantage. This study, and previous ones, established that moderate-to-high intake of wine was linked with lower diabetes risk—probably because the polyphenol compounds in red wine may assist in managing blood sugar, the authors wrote.
Moderate consumption of beer was also connected to lower diabetes risk for men in the research, but not for women. The researchers say that this may be because not a sufficient number of women in their sample reported drinking beer to demonstrate a strong association.
