2. Listening! Remembering details later is the most important part about listening now.
Sometimes, a person can appear to be listening closely, even hanging on your every word, but later on, you find they didn’t hear a thing you said. Or, perhaps they were listening at the time, but simply didn’t retain the information. Both situations are a major turn-off in the dating game, as they indicate selfishness as well as a lack of interest in the other person. It also leads to poor communication and can cause unnecessary conflicts.
Unfortunately, most everyone is guilty of being a poor listener to some degree, but that doesn’t mean you can’t improve this skill, especially given how important it is in the dating game!
The simplest way to improve is to speak less. Let the other person talk and only jump in when they pause for a response. When you do respond, use it display your attentiveness: ask for clarification or acknowledge the other person’s feelings. Recalling minor details shows you care, so it’s not a surprise listening is such a desirable trait.
