Multiple Sclerosis: The Year in Review

Updated diagnosis criteria helps improve process

The McDonald Criteria have typically been the criteria used by doctors across the United States to diagnosis MS, but many feared that they were becoming outdated in light of new developments and advancements made in the understanding of MS and its symptoms. This is why an international panel of 30 of the most acclaimed MS researchers got together to hold a panel on updating the McDonald Criteria. After days of deliberation, they did manage to update and refine the criteria to better meet modern understanding of MS. The researchers hope that this set of criteria will help doctors better diagnose the condition and reduce misdiagnoses that could lead to unnecessary procedures and stress on the patients.
