In the United States, over $19 billion dollars are spent on an annual basis on the rehabilitation of individuals with disabilities associated with MS, stroke, spinal cord injuries, and balance deficits. Hippotherapy is attempting to ease such disabilities and decreased quality of life in individuals with all of these conditions. For this reason, more and more neurologists are turning to this therapeutic approach. A majority of therapists who are certified in hippotherapy practice the approach in their own clinics or at therapeutic riding centers, which are facilities that hold trained horses as therapy animals.
