Good Clothing Choices
Sturdy shoes, warm clothing, socks and blankets should be a part of the emergency pack even if the disaster happens in a warm clime. Unexpected weather can also bring with it unexpected temperatures, people with diabetes may have circulatory issues that can be exacerbated with exposure to below average temperatures. Long sleeves and long sturdy pants are also recommended to minimize the risk of cuts and abrasions that may have a difficult time healing or may lead to infection. The feet should be checked daily to make sure that skin has not been rubbed raw and that blisters have not formed.
