New Link Discovered Between Sensory Aspects of Speech and Language Issues in Autism
Final thoughts
Non-verbal communication is important for verbal communication. Paying attention to these sensory cues at a young age seems to be linked with improved learning skills. Since children with autism do not pay attention as much to these cues, this may be part of why their language skills are often deficient.
But what causes this inattention? And does attention lead to greater language skills, or do greater language skills lead to more attention?
These are important questions that knowledgeable people are asking. We will have the answers someday, hopefully soon.
