Challenges in diagnosing Alzheimer’s disease at an early stage have limited healthcare professionals from being able to intervene and treat the disease before substantial neurodegeneration occurs. However, new noninvasive imaging techniques have been developed to pinpoint accumulation of amyloid proteins (A) in the human retina. Such proteins may present themselves two decades prior to the onset of AD symptoms and enable advancements in the early detection and treatment of AD.
