Pro Athlete Jake Diekman Recovers From Ulcerative Colitis Surgeries
When Jake realized he needed treatment
Finally, the IBD brought Diekman’s athletic career to a screeching halt
Diekman was traded to the Texas Rangers in July of 2015. During the offseason of 2014, the left-handed relief pitcher had a flare. His ulcerative colitis made him lose 20 pounds in just two weeks. Amanda stood by him through it all, taking care of him not only physically but emotionally as well.
By fall of 2016, Diekman’s health required him to take leave from his beloved sport. In January 2017, he went through a series of three operations to remove his colon and create a J-pouch using the small intestine.
