Recent Studies Show Link Between Fibromyalgia and Small-Fiber Polyneuropathy

What is Small-Fiber Polyneuropathy?

This disease is caused by damage to the small nerves that supply tactile sensation to the body, regulate heart rate, assist in breathing, aid in digestion and controls the perspiration. It occurs only in the peripheral nervous system, the nerves that reside outside of the brain and spinal column, and happens when these nerves become damaged. It’s thought to be caused by an immune response, in this case an autoimmune one, which causes the body to attack it’s own healthy tissue.
