Research Shows Air Pollution Can Be a Possible Trigger for Multiple Sclerosis Relapse

A well-designed case-crossover study

The French School of Public health designed a case-crossover study where they evaluated 536 multiple sclerosis patients and followed them for a decade, from 2000-2009. These patients were identified using a regional Multiple Sclerosis Network in Strasbourg, France. The patients were monitored for relapse occurrence, and a total of 2052 occurrences were recorded over this period of time. Among the patients who relapsed, the researchers differentiated them based on socioeconomic characteristics to evaluate for any trends.
