How does it work?
This new hydrogel treatment has very little toxicity and can carry and release certain drugs directly into the joints. It also captures the molecules formed from NO, and absorbs them after releasing the drugs. This preliminary treatment not only releases pain-relieving drugs directly into the body, it also soaks up the molecules that are causing inflammation and pain in the first place. It remains to be seen how effective and widespread this drug will be, but researchers hope that it could prove to be a major improvement on typical RA treatment regimens.
