Some Cystic Fibrosis Patients May Live Longer Due to Special Mutation
The answer lies in DNA
Researchers were suspicious that the answer lies in our genetic code, known as DNA. They collected blood for these patients and sequenced their DNA to analyze the region that codes for disease-related mutations. They labeled these special individuals as "long-term, non-progressors", meaning they were able to live with their disease for a prolonged period of time with a minimum progression of lung manifestations classic to cystic fibrosis.
