Prevent sleep apnea with weight loss and by limiting alcohol

If you suspect that you have sleep apnea, it is best to see your doctor. But there are also a few ways to manage or prevent sleep apnea from developing. This includes:

  • Weight management, as obesity is one of the most common risk factors for sleep apnea
  • Limiting alcohol consumption
  • Avoiding or totally quitting smoking
  • Treating congestion of your nose and making sure airways are open
  • Changing your sleeping position, lying on your side instead of on your back
