Success of Lab-Grown Colons Could Transform Future Crohn's and Colitis Research

Colons: How were they created?

How were they created?

The human embryonic colons that were generated from the pluripotent stem cells seem to function as though they are natural human tissues when they were transplanted into the mice.

The scientists involved in this study are hoping that the technology that they demonstrated will allow for unprecedented colon studies. This technology should allow diseases and conditions of the colon to be studied and evaluated in human modeling systems. This technology also brings the possibility of eventually being able to generate human gastrointestinal tract tissues that will be able to be transplanted into patients.
