More treatment options
Nowadays, treatment options for cancer have greatly improved. The most common treatments include radiation, chemotherapy, and surgery. Radiation uses high-energy transmission to slow down the growth of cancer cells or kill them. It can be used alone or in combination with chemotherapy or surgery. Chemotherapy is the use of drugs to slow down the growth of cancer cells or kill them. It can be administered intravenously (to be inserted into a vein with a needle) or orally in the form of a pill (to be swallowed through the mouth). Chemotherapy can be an effective approach towards treating the spread of cancer because chemo drugs have the ability to travel to a large amount of areas of the body. Surgery is a procedure that is used to remove the tumor and surrounding tissue. It is not recommended for all types of cancer; however, when it is recommended, it involves removing as much of the cancer as possible. Alternative medicine has also been used to alleviate cancer symptoms and side effects following cancer treatment. Examples of such alternative medicine include yoga, acupuncture, massage, meditation, and other relaxation techniques.
