The Continued Journey to Finding a Cure for Celiac Disease

Future cures showing progress: Larazotide Acetate, an oral drug

Initiated by Innovate Biopharmaceuticals Inc., this oral peptide drug is designed to make the gut less penetrable. In the case that gluten is consumed, it will help by not allowing the gluten to cross the intestinal barrier and cause an immune response. This drug is expected to go to Phase 3 of clinical trials this year. Though clinical results show that larazotide acetate still has not fully stopped all gluten immune response, it has shown a positive reaction. Hopefully, celiac patients have far less to worry about in case of accidental gluten consumption.
