The Link Between Fibromyalgia and Pelvic Pain as Shown in Brain Scans

Even those that had a clear diagnosis of urological chronic pelvic pain were actually similar to the chronic pain disorder know as fibromyalgia. When asked to draw a picture of the pain by researchers at The University of Michigan, participants in this study indicated the pain in the pelvic region as body pain that radiated throughout the entire area, even more so than other areas. Fibromyalgia symptoms were found in those who reported pelvic pain, with MRI scans showing brain markers that were nearly indistinguishable from those with reported fibromyalgia pain. Treating chronic pain over time can be a vexing experience for many individuals. When both of these conditions are placed together, it can lead to widespread pain and a lower satisfaction of overall life experiences. Studies that can assist patients in dealing with these pains have the possibility to answer many questions. Further research is needed to establish better information, although recent studies have made great efforts within the field of scientific research relating to fibromyalgia and chronic pelvic pain.
