Alcohol can fit into a few of our categories of bloat causing foods and drinks. Though alcohol is a diuretic that leaves the body to electrolyte imbalance it also can add to water retention from holding on to sodium. Alcoholic beverages also act as excessive sugar in the body. It can also irritate and inflame the stomach and intestinal lining sometimes leading to gastritis. After all, alcohol is not a natural substance and our body treats it as a toxin.
