When the body goes to sleep it slows down the digestive system to put that energy elsewhere. When we eat late at night, especially food high in carbohydrates, we increase the chance of bloating. Instead of the food being properly broken down and flowing through the digestive system, it sits in the stomach and intestines for longer and this causes gas and bloating. Carbohydrates also cause the body to retain more water!
