Understanding the Fibromyalgia Diagnosis Process

Additional Symptoms

In addition to the widespread chronic pain of FM, because the disorder is such a hard one to diagnose people with FM can sometimes feel shame and question whether or not the things they’re feeling are only in their heads. Patients are at risk of developing emotional disorders such as depression due to feelings of isolation from perhaps not being able to leave the home for extended periods of time, and the feeling that no one understands the pain that they endure. Secondary symptoms that are a consequence of depressive episodes can amplify and even exacerbate the pain of FM.
