Why "Shaking Palsy" Is Still a Mystery

Understanding Parkinson's disease

Parkinson’s disease is classified as a neurodegenerative disease.  The progressive condition is most commonly thought to consist of tremors, specifically seen in the patient’s hands, however Parkinson’s is a lot more than that.  The disease was discovered in the 1800s, and has since been thought to be the result of particular mutations of specific genes in the human body.  The exact cause, however, is still a mystery, and has served as the very foundation for extensive research related to Parkinson’s disease.
