Nighttime Breakfast Prep
One of the most revolutionary advancements in breakfast ease is the popularization of overnight oats. Overnight oats are basically super healthy parfaits. Like Donkey said in Shrek, “You know what ELSE everybody likes? Parfaits! Have you ever met a person, you say, ‘Let's get some parfait, they say, ‘Heck no, I don't like no parfait.’? Parfaits are delicious!” Not only do they taste good, they are good for you. In fact, oatmeal is incredibly healthy and helps to stabilize blood sugars in people who live with type 1 and 2 diabetes. A quick internet search for diabetes-friendly overnight oats recipes will yield a plethora of results, but in the mean time, stock up on the following ingredients for the base: almond milk, oats, chia seeds, and Greek yogurt. Basically, all of the recipes will tell you to mix oats, yogurt, almond milk, chia seeds and mix them together in a bowl. In another bowl, put chopped fruit of your choice. Evenly layer (or unevenly, if you prefer) fruits and oat mix and refrigerate for at least 8 hours. This is a super quick breakfast that can be made in ten minutes the night prior.
Smoothies for Breakfast
For people who don’t even have the energy to chew in the morning, there is a solution to their breakfast dilemma: smoothies! Smoothies are an excellent way to fill up in the morning as well as sneak some vegetables into breakfast. It is important for people who live with diabetes to ingest the proper amount of nutrients.
For example, doctors suggest green, leafy vegetables, as they are a superfood for everyone, but for a lot of people, kale is no fun to eat. But for anyone who has ever put kale in a smoothie, they know that the taste is undetectable when paired with the right fruits. Smoothies kill two birds with one stone: they give you the nutrients that the doctors suggest and they fill you up for your day. People can also carry their smoothie throughout the morning, making it easier for people short on time to get their breakfast.
A quick Google search will provide thousands of delicious and healthy recipes that are diabetes friendly.
