Celebrities with Fibromyalgia: Facing an Invisible Illness

Fibromyalgia and Sleep Disorders

A Norway study also found that there is a link between fibromyalgia and sleep disorders. The study found that women with age less than 45 and with frequent sleep issues were five times at risk of developing fibromyalgia than those who sleep well.

About 90% of those diagnosed with fibromyalgia are women, and no one can explain why this happens. There is a theory that states that lower levels of serotonin in women may contribute to fibromyalgia development. Serotonin is a brain transmitter that helps in regulating pain. Men produce more serotonin than women which seem to explain the gender issue. Another theory link women’s menopause and hormones to the disease but it hasn’t been proven.
