These Celebrity Athletes Have Fought Crohn's Disease

Matt Light

In 2001 the New England Patriots linebacker Matt Light was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease at the beginning of his football career. This could have become an insurmountable setback for him, but he pushed through instead. Despite missing games because he was sick, and not being able to take most of his Crohn’s disease medication, he still became a three-time Super Bowl champion. Eventually Light had to have more than a foot of his intestine removed. He has since retired, but like other athletes with Crohn’s, Light still works to raise awareness about Crohn’s disease and educate the public.
