Why Clinical Trials Are Essential for Crohn's and Colitis Treatment Advancement

Crohn's and Colitis: The recruitment problem

The recruitment problem

Clearly, clinical trials are extremely important for improving disease outcomes. But, as previously mentioned, researchers struggle to recruit a sufficient number of participants. Part of the problem is knowledge based. Currently, only 6% of doctors tell their IBD patients about clinical trials and the chance to enroll, leading to a seriously lacking pool of volunteers to participate in these trials. But, physicians are not entirely at fault. Oftentimes they are unaware of the current trials open for patient participation or feel reluctant to put the care of their patients in the hands of another provider, according to a study conducted by the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America.
