Despite these hurdles, Sophie managed to keep up good health in her childhood and teens without even having to be hospitalized until she was 19, which can be considered a miracle among many with CF.
Many view a visit to the hospital as debilitating, but for Sophie, it was a catalyst to adventure and commitment to further health. She explained, "I needed daily treatments but did all the things my friends did. I loved sport and sprinted for country. But being in hospital made me realize my condition was more serious than I'd appreciated. I decided to use it in a positive way to push me. I drew up a bucket list and committed myself to be as fit and healthy as possible."
